About this trail:
AS AN INTRO: For those who are newbies, there are 'vivid' POSTING, discussion and community networking sites on the Net, At these sites you can often also 'link' to others and follow each others posts.
Clipmarks is my favorite. It has a nice interface snd easy to post clips from the web (once you get use to it). Fair amount of responses and comments. Can vote ("pop") articles you like or don't like up or down.
The other sites on this Trailfire are similar; although each has it's unique differences. Clipmarks is unique, for example, because rather than posting whole pages it's set up to post 'clips,' or just sections of pages.
Clipmarks also makes it easy to then take clip and post them on other sites like: digg, delicious, newsvine, reddit, stumble, furl, and others that will be in this trail.
Each site has it's unique features: Newsvine allows users to write their own articles as well as posting newsclips.Google is good for forming your own group. Some specialize in politics, etc.
This 'Trailfire' will provide a quick overview of what these various sites have to offer.

For those who are newbies, there are 'vivid' discussion and community networking sites on the Net, designed to post Articles, articles which are then voted on....and articles which can then have comments attached.
You can often also 'link' to others on the site, other 'clippers,' and follow their posts and/or they can link to you and follow yours.
Clipmarks is my favorite. Nice interface. Easiest to post clips from the web (once you get use to it). Fair amount of responses and comments. Can vote ("pop") articles you like or don't like up or down.
The other sites on this Trailfire are similar; although each has it's unique differences, for better or worse.
Clipmarks also makes it most easy to then take your news clip and post it on other sites like this: digg, delicious, newsvine, reddit, stumble, furl, fark, facebook, blinklist, netview, diigo, spurl, slapdash and maybe even a few others.
So if you're signed up for any of them it's real easy to post your item in more than one place.
This Trailfire will visit and comment on these other sites.
Newsvine, for example, allows users to write their own articles and post them like blogs, as well as posting web site newsclips. Other sites also do this.

The 'GrandMa,'
of progressive activist forums. Broad coverabe. Impressive

This is a widely read, very hip progressive site. Proposes a little action now and then as well as a sharing of ideas.
It would be impossible to think of 'left-wing,' forums (if that's what you want to call them) without thinking of The Daily Kos.

A nice site for reliable information, well organized, professional, a good selection of threads in the discussion forum. Definitely good people working for a better world.
Some might therefore call them "lefties," or left-wing," or whatever; but it looks to me like they are Definitely good people working for a better world.

A Google offers many features and one of them is Google Groups where many topics and special interest forums are formed.
This is the easiest site, once you have an account, to set up your own group if you want. Or set up two or three groups.
The forums seem very flexible. Some groups are set up for class reunions, for ski and hiking clubs, for people living in the same town or going to the same school, etc. Not to mention those of us discussing the Great Issues of the day, or those providing links to the best free software or the top 100 jokes of the century, etc.

Very straightforward. Nice sense of history as well. Also covers the 'unglamorous,' topics as well as the 'hot news,' of the day.
Also has, on it's front page, links to dozens and dozens of other good news sources.
Sites that do that are not just 'in it for themselves,' but 'in it,' to give us a good sense of what's going on and who said what to who and who voted for this or that.
A-OK, 4sure

A unique site, not focuses on news headlines but focused on Blog Headlines, blog headlines from members in all 50 states.
To have your blog listed on the site you have to submit it and have it approved. Right-wingers will have their blogs thrown into the pits of hell.
I don't much like the term "Lefty," it's sort of like labeling yourself: "Hippie News."
I doubt if an item from any site called: "Hippie News," would ever find it's way to the White House or the UN and where ever it goes it's tainted a bit, sort of like this software company I saw once that named itself: "Bunch of *rap," Software."
Now, really, even if they had good products you'd have to think twice about buying them or letting your friends know about your new discovery.
It would be like buying a car from: "*hit on Wheels."
But...Lefty Blogs. And they're doing a good thing.

This site has a nice sense of 'professionalism,; about it; feeling a little more formal that the more chaotic Digg.
It also lets users write their own articles without any need to post news items.

The topics here tend to be more adult and political.
I like this site for adding comments to the posts of others. Buzzflash makes this easy to quickly do, just go down the list one after the other with no time wasted having to 'sign in,' for each comment.
I don't post items directly on Buzzflash because items posted on Clipmarks, or a few of the other sites, can be forwarded to Buzzflash easily.
Items posted on Digg for example, can also be easily posted to Buzzflash (and other sites).
If a user wants to really get the word out on one topic or news item, the most efficient workflow would be to make a post on Clipmarks or or Digg or several others and then forward it around to all the other sites possible.
After a half-hour or so of reading and commenting on the items here on Buzzflash, my typing fingers get tired but I feel a lot better.
To remain silent at this time of horrors in domestic and foreign policy is what's more stressful and sickening to me; actually impossible, it seems.
When I post items or make comments I frequently mention: AN ACTION. I don't think It's good enough to just whine, write or give pretty speeches. I believe a political ACTION is important. . I want to consider what can be done to work towards a positive solution -- Real Actions and not just expressions of sentiments or opinions.
We should count our actions a lot more than just count our words; although expressing ideas is also important to start raising an issue in all our minds.
Sites like this are great, for both.

Stumble is fun. Rather than posting newsclips or comments the real emphasis is recommending sites it thinks you might like.
It does this differently than del.icio.us, rather than grabbing all your bookmarks and giving them tags it just lets you vote on whatever web page you like.
Vote you like it. Or vote you don't like it.
Eventually Stumble, through your own voting, can begin to discern what you like and don't like and bring up really cool pages that a community of similar interest has suggested.
It does also have groups. It does also allow for the discussion of issues. It gives you a free blog page, and other nice things.
But rather than a resource for posting about the latest plane crash it's more a resource for discovering cool things about an interest you might have in aviation.

A very useful but very tricky site. BE WARNED - when signing up for del.icio.us all your bookmarks may be mangled beyond belief.
So save a normal copy of your bookmarks first.
It's not that all your bookmarks actually get 'mangled,' but they get totally re-arranged, instead of being placed in Folders, each of the bookmarks get assigned and organized by Tag Words.
This can be initially very confusing. Del.icio.us is trying to improve this and maybe they have already done so but the Big Advantage and the idea behind TAGS is then del.icio.us can recommend other sites to you that you might like.
This is cool. This has it's payoffs. This can help you link to a lot of sites and info you would never have know about. -- in the same way that the next site on the trail, Stumble, also does this, but in a different way.
As the other sites, del.icio.us also allows the posting of pages, voting on pages, etc.
It certainly is one of the main crossroads on the web, using this new idea of Tags, coming up with lots of connections that previously would not have been made.
Have fun. Pretty soon the web itself could begin to be recommending what pages you should be checking out next.

Digg is the 'GrandDaddy,' of these posting, news clipping, and commenting sites.
Many more votes are cast for selections on this site than on the other sides. Sometimes votes over a thousand or more. It also has a very broad selection of topics.
It takes a lot of 'Diggs," to get near the front page.
The top rated topic has close to 3,000 votes.
Not surprisingly the top topics are about sex, school, music, and computers: something to keep in mind.

Not for the faint of heart. Not always for the serious or 'decent.' But also far from being only for jokers.
INTERNATIONAL: Not based in the USA. Because it's in English, though, it is more of a common ground for English-speakers; although this means not only English speakers from the USA, Canada, England, Australia/New Zealand, but also English-speakers from Israel, from Arab and Muslim lands, from Europe, etc.
No posting of articles (although links can be inserted) but more geared towards debate. Easy to start a new topic. Easy to reply. The items which have the most recent replies go to the top, the items will no replies sink to the bottom.

Another popular posting site, appearing more sedate that the others. Common with others you see a lot of : LISTS that stay on top of the pile, such as:
21 Top Shows on TV
10 Great Ideas for a Home Business
101 Ways to Reduce Stress
50 Best Free Software sites
I use Furl if I want to send a web page and email to one or two people. Like other sites what you save and send is kept on file, in this case, on the Furl website.
Having files like this are very useful and Furl makes this easiest to do.

Similar to the others. Feels a bit more 'low key.' I like the way it keeps track of the users tags. Also has groups that can be joined. Another good 'file cabinet' on the web. Write an item here; download or share it anywhere.
Why write on your own desktop when writing on sites like this share your ideas with the world; and keeps better organized files of what you've written than most folks do at home or work (because of the built-in use of Tags.)
Have fun.

Reddit seems a bit more 'provocative,' then the sites mentioned previously; of course, that is how it looks today; tomorrow it could be a different story.
Not very different then the daily news and the TV news when you get down to it: A big storm or plane crash tomorrow might wipe away all of today.
I like reddit, another popular mainstream posting site, because it's guaranteed to have an item or two too get your blood moving.
More significantly I've discovered news here that I'm certain I never would have found elsewhere.
Like all 'news' on the Internet, of course, it shouldn't instantly be believed as the word of God -- just as the news on TV, etc. deserves some suspicion.
But nuggets of ideas can be discovered here that have a touchstone of truth not found elsewhere.
-- not to mention the rest of the circus.

I think this site is a Trojan Horse, totally a set-up for some folks to slander and mock Islam.
A good example of remembering: Buyer Beware.

Appears to be a respectful, well organized, authoritative site to learn about and/or discuss Muslim ideas and actions.
The trail ends here. There are sites and forums out there for whatever Pro or Con you can imagine and for every special interest under the sun.
I'm gonna go check out camping sites in the Southwest USA for New Age buddhist who eat fried chicken and are between the ages of 40-50, with independent incomes, single, drive miniVans. and are deep into Boomer Rock.
