DMA098's Trails
Kgalema Motlanthe is currently the Deputy President of South Africa and the Deputy President of the African National Congress (ANC), which is the ruling political party of South Africa. Motlanthe briefly served as President following the resignation of Thabo Mbeki in 2008, and was viewed as a "caretaker" of sorts until the current President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, was elected by the ANC in May 2009.
What sets Motlanthe apart as both a prominent and unique political figure in South Africa is that his impressive political career has been relatively free of scandal, and his short presidency characterized a peaceful, democratic transfer of power.
Scan Motlanthe's official profile to learn more about his formative years as an anti-Aparteid militant, a prisoner, a union activist, and an ANC politician. This page will take us up to to Motlanthe's election to President in September 2008.
