About this trail:

Notice how small the Mexican militia was in comparison to the French troops!

Who was eventually installed by the French to govern Mexico?

Do you think this battle could have been avoided?  What would have needed to happen in order to avoid a battle with the French?

Do you think this battle could have been avoided?  What would have needed to happen in order to avoid a battle with the French?

Celebrations of Cinco de Mayo are as popular in the U.S. as they are in Mexico, why do you think this is so?

This page has information similar to the one previous.

Does the information match up with what you have found so far?  Are there any differences between dates or numbers of troops?  If so, what are they?

3

Why would it have been important to France to have a European leader governing Mexico?  What would this have meant for the Mexican people?

This is a long article, be sure to read all the way to the bottom!

Why didn't Benito Juarez know Spanish when he arrived in Mexico?  What were two of Juarez's greatest accomplishments?

Why would the French not want to acknowledge defeat?

Look at the paintings of the Cinco de Mayo Battle toward the bottom of the page.  Describe what is happening in one of them (Remember to include what number it is!).  How does this reflect what you know about the battle?

Would you have wanted to go to Mexico in order to rule?  Would you have taken your family with you?

You may stop reading when you reach the picture "A cavaly skirmish."

In the other articles that we've read so far, the U.S. seems to have stayed out of the battle in Mexico due to the Civil War.  In this article we're presented with a different viewpoint.  Describe this and it's repurcussions as far as what may have happened if the Mexicans had been unsuccesful in defeating the French at the Battle of La Puebla?

The map at the bottom of the page shows where the battles took place in Mexico.  What a long trek!  How were the Mexicans helped by the French having made such a long journey to the site of the battle?

1. ahh this is awesome! glad i'm not in your class!
