HERO's Trails
You should get something that looks like this (from 20 Sep). I was surprised to see "news" of the HEROES online comic already! And Hiro's blog is in English (click here for his 1st entry)! Back to the online comic, despite what the graphic novel instructions currently say, a "hidden" clickable link is available on the second page of the first 2 online comics when in READ MODE. The hidden links so far are a preview for the first Hiro comic (or second comic publicly available) and the third comic (for Nathan), a campaign commercial for Nathan Petrelli, and the MySpace page for Claire. This is a link to a page with the HEROES logo and the slowly-blinking text, "Save the Cheerleader...Save the World." You may need to right-click and open it in a new window. So what do you think that phrase means? The next mark was directed to go to HEROES.nbc.com, but since that page does not exist anymore, it sometimes redirects to the new NBC HEROES page (which means you can go to the next mark and "fall" off the trail). This is a preview of the new official HEROES site at nbc (from 25 Sep, which is different from this screenshot of the previous incarnation of the site), and you can also click here to get to it. If you can't continue on the trail when you click on the right arrow, jump over to the HEROES fansites, or go here for some HEROES promos. Also, this is the trail for HEROES news, go here for screencaps and speculation about HEROES, such as the "symbol" and SYLAR, if you're interested, this is a trail for some HEROES fun, and this fledgling trail is for HEROES trivia.

Here are some fun video interviews during Comic-con in San Diego. Thought ya might like hearing or reading about HEROES from those involved with it.

Like there was any doubt! Up next: A way to find the new HEROES episode descriptions more than 2 weeks before they air. Note: I'll use this primarily for news releases about HEROES, like linking to the news that HEROES is the #1 new show for the week (the last mark along the trail). I might add more marks to specific releases in reverse chronological order. The HEROES main trail is here. And there's a trail for HEROES speculation (about the "symbol", SYLAR, and such, with screencaps) here. I had some iTunes codes for a contest giveaway, but the in-sink-erator issue has probably made those codes invalid.

You may have first learned about this website from either a glimpse of HRG's business card shown in HEROES, season 1, episode 12, "Godsend", or from the Primatech Paper banner ad on the HEROES NBC site (click the first image for a larger view):

The site is part of "HEROES 360", which is NBC's way to share bonus information about HEROES. One of the fun "get to know you" deals at this Primatech Paper site (owned by NBC), is a "career" form that you can get to when you enter the code, "mt36" (which code is received after texting the word "APPLY" to 46622), on this "Jobs" page. Some people think that the "36" in the code refers to the 36 people that are "on the list", or those that Chandra Suresh's program has identified as ones possessing some extraordinay abilities.

On the form page, it states, "Primatech Paper uses a sophisticated personality inventory based on the DSM-IV to help us determine if applicants fit our employee profile." It's thought that nbc might actually use the answers to learn more about the HEROES fans/viewers. Another reason for the form is to give people with either the correct combination (or possibly correct range?) of answers a clue to learn more, which came in the form of an email or text message.

Another way to get the clue, with a similar message, without giving out your email address or using a cellphone, is...

Credit TxVoodoo if you use any of these early HEROES promo photos. If ya want the HEROES logo, here are two high-resolution versions, one with a black background (3300x1110 pixels), and the other with a white background (3150x750 pixels). There are at least 6 HEROES flash ads so far (hover over arrow in the ad for more): Phase 1 Top Banner Ad, Phase 1 Main Body Ad, Phase 2 Top Banner Ad, and Phase 2 Main Body Ad, a Peelback “floater” ad (that’s what it was labeled as), and an imdb floater. Also, the eclipsed sun moves from this banner, and it flows to this banner, and they're advertising the premiere at myspace.com (you may have to wait a little bit for the animation to get going in the second one). And this was the bg for the front page. The HEROES preview swf (which shows the preview seen at the end of the premiere) from an imdb banner is here! Screenshot of the banner, if you were interested. Click here for an Exclusive HEROES scene from episode 2! This is the start of the main HEROES trail, click here to go back to the NBC HEROES site (if that's the place that led you here), here for the in-theater trailer, or here to digg it.

Although this trail was first published online the day before (or in the case of some fortunate HEROES viewers in Canada, the day of) the last new episode before first mark for HEROES News, since you may favor following an actual trail instead of visiting just one mark where I simply added a bunch of links.

So, besides the new episode descriptions (if a new episode airs) that you can read every Friday from the NBC Primetime Schedule at nbcumv (and I've edited the search details a little, so it'll look different compared to the nbcumv list at the next mark) at least 2 weeks before the airdate (unless a "sweeps" week and/or month is coming up, and then the listings are given earlier), you can also read an episode detail usually a little less than 2 weeks earlier than an airdate from the TVGuide HEROES episode list.

Unlike the HEROES trail, which is supposed to be more informative about HEROES, this trail is for screencaps to show some trivial details or help with HEROES speculations. For instance, we don't quite know who SYLAR is yet or what is his motivation, but we do know how to spell SYLAR* (the name on the tape came out a little dark). But that may not mean much since you can't be 100% certain that Simone's last name is Deveaux (the most recent correct spelling), because even on the NBC website, they use both spellings for her name, Deveaux and Deveraux! Anyway, the "symbol" shown in this compilation looks like this: This compilation is of most of the instances of the "symbol" (or what I had erroneously called the space between the CTAGs) that are mostly from Isaac's paintings (with other instances in other images to follow). If you look at the code that was shown on Mohinder's monitor (from information on the flash drive that Eden found), you'll see that the shape is made from the plus signs that I non-technically thought were placeholders to fill the space between the CTAGs (where c, t, a, and g are the dna bases). Some bigger, though still blurry versions of the code are here or here. The following images are the screencaps with the symbols labeled to provide an unofficial count. Labeled Screenshots of the symbol (part 1): Labeled Screenshots of the symbol (part 2): The shape or symbol represented by plus signs in the code looks like it could indicate that the supposedly proper composition of dna bases to fully map the human genomes (which really has been completed), or the sequence of dna bases of those with the potential to have extraordinary abilities, is found when all of the placeholders make that particular shape.** Other instances of the space between the CTAGs are on the 9thWonders comic (it looks to be a logo in the story for Helix comics, and here's a comparison of Hiro in the comic and actual scene), and what Peter drew of him walking on air. And there's one cap of the Bank of America sign in New York (as the camera spins around Hiro) that looks like it's supposed to look like the symbol, which I had to piece it together. And this is a version of the symbol from an episode 6 promo. This next image shows the last pages of the comic that Hiro is looking at, and the information about what is on the page (that I could discern) follows: Last panel of the comic has what looks like a Nissan Versa heading to Las Vegas on 15 North (but I could be wrong about the highway number), and the bubble says "We're on our own from here on out..." To be continued... [text on right-hand page]: Published by Writer/Artist: Isaac Mendez 215 Reed St., #7 New York, New York 10010 Urged on by his instructor, Dominick Cabalo, Isaac honed his art skill and took various summer classes to help develop his craft. It wasn't until high school when he began winning illustration contests. With even more classes in illustration and _____ ______ courses under his belt, Isaac moved to New York and soon after high school took various classes in college for comic book illustration. It wasn't until the New York Comic Convention that he caught the eye of Camacho Comics and they hired him on the spot. He worked there for 3 years, all the while learning the ins and outs of the business. Then [in] 2002, he self-published his own line of comics [under?] his old Uncle Burk's name - one of the _____ ______ in his life who supported his love We hope you all enjoy the _____ Wonders! ________ ________ Dom Cabalo Here are some random screencaps, that you might be interested in: In episode 2, it looks like the gun in the two separate scenes is the same. Shankar provided the voice in the music (from ep 2 credits). Hiro passing by his likeness. Claire's flexi-neck (Notice: don't click if you get squeamish). Information about Niki (did you notice the date and/or any differences in street numbers?). And purely unsubstantiated speculation follows: *I think SYLAR is an acronym for something like SYnergized Lifeform After Radiation, Synergized Youth Lifeform After Radiation, or maybe Subject Y Lives After Radiation... Or maybe SYnthetic Lifeform After Radiation? Just speculatin'... **This information came from a forum member named Dr. Giggles about the plus signs: I can tell you from my own experience IRL that + signs in the context of DNA sequence presented in this way usually indicates insertional mutations...places where one or more nucleotides are inserted into the genome for whatever reason. That was the first thing I thought when I saw this screencap earlier. Most of the time this is irrelevant, as it is rare that these events also coincide with a gene (genes make up a small percentage of the human genome, it's mostly repetitive sequences which may have no function or may be regulatory elements). So perhaps this sequence shows us that the Hero's have not mutated existing sequence but actually gained new sequence, and possibly new gene(s) that give them super powers. If so, this would be the key to identifying any Hero, whether their powers have come forth or not. Genome-wide DNA analysis is an everyday procedure in forensic and research labs. Update: Now it looks like the plus signs are actually minus signs, or dashes... I wonder if the "Deveaux Society" will be involved with dna testing?!? And do you think that Simone's last name of "Deveaux" was a "tip of the hat" to Nathaniel DeVeaux, who has been in quite a few sci-fi tv shows and movies, but he's never portrayed the character with any "super" powers?

This trail will be for trivia, spoilers from various sources, minutiae, and a catch-all for HEROES-related and hopefully interesting info that didn't make it to the main HEROES trail (which might need some updating). What's fun about reading posts at 9thWonders is that people associated with the show sometimes post thought-provoking messages or ask questions that may give spoilerish details or just an inside joke. One such "task" was to find out the name of the reporter during the news of the train wreck and why that name was significant (not to the show, but just in general). So do you know anything about Laura Lancaster? Well, here is some information about one person by that name: Laura Lancaster's the Senior VP of Drama and Cable Programming, etc., at NBC! And here was an interesting way to tell about her promotion, at the end of this article in Variety: "At NBC U TV, drama VP Laura Lancaster is expected to take over for Pope." If you are familiar with comics, you might've noticed that Hiro referenced X-men #143 when he wanted to explain that Kitty Pryde did some time traveling. Aron Coleite said that was the wrong reference, and it should have been #141, and it was supposed to be changed for the premiere. Well, the iTunes download still had the incorrect reference, and so did the NBC premiere. Afterwards, Joe Pokaski acknowledged the error, and then shared a pic of issue #143's cover, and the alien looked sorta like Uluru (the image below was a bigger one found of that issue): However, Tim Sale said he did not draw or was told to draw Uluru based off of any existing characters, so some speculation I had that some villainous character could make (what looked like in the painting) Hiro imagine that a monster from his comic books was going to fight him was incorrect. Jimmy Jean-Louis said his character (the "Mysterious man") had the power to erase people's memories, so I thought maybe he could do other "Jedi mind tricks" or had other "psy-ops" abilities to make people see what's not there, or not see what IS there... But that speculation would have been good only if it was Hiro with "Uluru" and if Uluru was drawn because it was from Hiro's recollections of the alien in X-men #143. And moving on... Below is an interesting set of shots. The first is of Hiro when he started to teleport from the subway to New York, and the second shot is after he saw some unfun stuff in a future New York setting and made a hasty retreat back to (about the time) when he first left the subway: If you noticed anything outta place in those shots, do you think it's part of the storyline or just incidental? Last, here are some links that may be of interest: The home of Tim Kring's live blog entries from the premiere night Greg Beeman's blog (one of the Directors/Producers of HEROES) And here is a sneak peek of the TVGuide cover that will be available the 19th of Oct for the week of the 23-29th, provided by CraigB (Craig Byrne of 9thWonders): I haven't decided whether to put some screencaps here or in the HEROES Screencaps trail yet. You probably noticed, but the casino Hiro, Ando, Niki, Micah, and Nathan visit in episode 4 is the same fictional one used as the setting for "Las Vegas" (although "Las Vegas" actually used Mandalay Bay for some scenes). Here's a compilation of one sign that hinted at the name, and look for more in that other trail soon. And these two shots are kind of fun: Two Chandra Suresh Portraits (and wedding ring, or not?) Two apartment numbers for Chandra Suresh
