Ever since corrective optics technology has become available from the Regan's Star Wars projects, much larger ground based telescopes are being developed.  Also interferometric both radio and optical telescopes are mature due largely by cheap computing power.

Cascade mountains is where I spend non-work, out-home time with my family and friends. It is one of the best mountain ranges in the North America to provide rugged outdoor opportunities.

We all need to look at the facts, which must be based on the real data provided through scientific methods. No, we can't all collect and analyze ourselves, but we can compare many observations and conclusions presented by others. This is my collection of resources on the climate crisis.

Ever since US detonated an h-bomb, efforts have been poured into harnessing the nuclear fusion reaction for energy production. I spent my graduate years on a plasma experiment. It's been a long way, and still years away from producing energy from ocean water.

This photo by Mr. Dempsey shows the airy view from the summit of Granite mountain. Yes, that is a lookout tower. it's not actively used, but maintained and open sometimes in Summer. This is one of my favorite hike in the Snoqualmie area. it starts gentle, but then steepens after a mile till the main avalanche gully. from there the main trail is very nice consistent angle all the way. I often take a off trail route along the gully on the SW ridge. The upper slope gets full of blue berries in the early Fall making your progress slow. The summit has a great 360 degree view of the surroundings. When there is snow, this is also my favorite mountain for back-country skiing. Just watch out for steep gullies and south facing slope for avalanches. *make sure to run your browser full screen (or big enough to see this mark on the Rainier photo)

Summerland on Rainier is definitely one of the best hikes in WA. This was the last hike for our older daughter, who is leaving Seattle to go college on the East Coast. I was not 100 % sure about this choice as the last hike since we have been to Rainier several times. The other option was the Cascade Pass where she has not yet been. Anyway, we decided on Summerland and really enjoyed it! The trail through the forest is wide and gentle. It is carpeted with years of pine needles from tall pine trees. After about 4 miles of this peaceful hike, we broke out into the alpine meadow with wildflowers everywhere. The views are wonderfully alpine: icy Rainier, Rocks of Little Tahoma, cliffs and glaciers. There is a stone walled shelter on a small hill top surrounded by all this scenery. This is a nice destination for most of people, but we continued further toward Panhandled Gap about 2 more miles away. This part just surprised me with its rugged rock ridges and vast alpine features. It is far enough from the main bulk of Mt Rainier, and reminded me of hiking in the Canadian Rockies. It was already mid August, but there was still snow fields to cross and a little pond was half covered with snow. Our two daughters decided to dip into the icy water, and played with the floating snow islands. >>continue...
