Litigation platforms are used to store business sensitive data. They are primarily shared by the organization’s legal group and the opposing parties. There is a need to create cross enterprise access of data due to this kind of platform sharing. It is at this point that enterprise policies play a vital role. Usually network policies may require that the system be located externally to other production systems and also require authentication from current employees itself.

During litigation hold situations, review platforms may need to be viewed by external legal groups also. The ideal solution would be to create a separate review platform for the legal groups by providing additional storage. This platform can be given preferential access to different sets of people. Another way to combat this challenge is to go for the ‘Software as a Service’ model and pay for software resources instead of owning them and adding to overhead costs. Data security challenges are the most primary to any ediscovery solution. If they are not dealt with carefully, the organization may be exposed to data thefts and external hacking.
