In most companies, e-mail seems to be the means to collaborate. Conveying ideas, obtaining views and sharing knowledge are primarily done through e-mails. While this is a feasible option, it’s not necessarily the best. It’s important to understand that e-mails are essentially meant to communicate and not to collaborate. Hence organizations need to build an enterprise collaboration platform dedicated for the purpose.

An enterprise wiki can create such a platform for organizational members to share their thoughts and insights. They can even share documents, knowledge and information. Enterprise wikis provide a forum to express views regarding key issues and major decisions. This encourages participation from employees and gives them a feeling of responsibility, in turn improving their performance.
