Welcome to the Baker Street Blog! I thought you might like to learn a little more about what we offer here, in an effort to get the most out of your experience with the blog. For that reason, I've established this Trailfire trail. When you're ready to read the next link in this "trail," click on the arrow above. This was the first post to the blog, over a year ago. One of the best features of a blog is that it allows readers to give instant feedback to the author. Simply click on "comment" and you can add in whatever you like. You don't need to have a Blogger account to post comments; you can always post anonymously if you wish.

One of the easiest ways to track what goes on here is to subscribe to our email updates. You'll receive an email in your inbox only when the blog has changed - usually on a daily or semi-daily schedule. There are some instances when there are multiple posts in a day. With email posts, you can be sure to get to the updates when and where you like. No more worrying about going directly to the site and wondering if anything has changed. It's simple and painless, and we'll never share your email address with anyone. Of course, there's an alternative subscription option called RSS. See what that's all about on the next link.

Great high-level overview of what RSS is and how to use it. If email subscription isn't for you, this is a nice option. It just requires an understanding of feedreaders (such as Bloglines or MyYahoo!). The upcoming Vista release of Windows will have a feedreader built right into Outlook.
5
If you're confused by RSS, simply click on this image for a visual representation of what RSS can do for you.
6
This is where you put our RSS feed to work. Here you'll see the blog's latest content, as well as subscription options. Simply select the feedreader of your choice above - Bloglines or some other reader - and you'll be off and running with RSS! I guess it is Really Simple!

You'll see capital four-letter words in the titles of every post. No, these aren't obscentities. These are the titles of the 60 Sherlock Holmes stories, codified by early Sherlockian and Irregular Jay Finley Christ.
8
Our friend Brad Keefauver has done a great job of listing all of the stories and their abbreviations.
9
Every post is tagged with a label that describes its content. You can aggregate posts by labels which interest you simply by clicking on a label.
10
Alternatively, you can sort posts by date to view content from a particular timeframe of interest. At the very top of the blog, you can use the search function to search for specific words or phrases.
11
We keep a link to Amazon on the home page, in order to encourage you to browse or to research some books that we mention from time to time.

If you like what you see on the Baker Street Blog, you should give the Baker Street Journal a try - much more scholarly and erudite writing from some truly dedicated Sherlockians from around the world.
