Airline Reactions to recent Terror

So this is what an incident with potential substance looks and sounds like.

Another airline diversion with little details as to the reason for the diversion. This time they do mention bomb sniffing dogs, but I suspect that is probably standard operating procedure for any plane that gets diverted out of Europe these days.

I know its somewhat trivial compared to safety, but this article and the advice doesn't specify what can be carried in the bag. Are people allowed to take their laptop, iPod, or even a book? It gives dimension and exclusions, but many other tihngs have been prevented in the UK as well. It would be nice if they could give more information. Many people are thinking about foregoing travel not just due to the risk, but also the wasted time in airports and tedium of travelling when you have to sit still and do nothing for 4-12 hours or more at a time.

Its understandable that the government, airports and airlines are struggling to confront a slightly new form of terrorism threats. However, mis-placing 10,000 bags is not only bad for passengers, it highlights a security risk. Unattended bags can be potentially dangerous.

Do the new gel restrictions prevent people from wearing sneakers with gels designed into them? What about magellan shoe inserts?

I just read a different article about an Ireland based airline Ryanair that was working to reduce the ticket charges on all flights & was currently succeeding on about 50% of their flights. That's right flights were free, but every amenity from baggage checking to penuts, coffee and water cost extra. If any airline can figure out the new paradigm, my money is on that company.

An Air Marshal identified themselves and the plane went back to the airport. It would be expected that something serious occurred especially as there are 12 people that have been arrested. So with crew and a marshall and other passengers how come now information is available identifying what the troubling behavior was? Not providing the information increases the amount of fear of the unknown.

"Another passenger, who was not identified, told Dutch NOS television he had sat next to one of those arrested and had seen nothing suspicious." This story gets even more peculiar with the absense of information. Hope something comes out soon.

So they are releasing the 12 people arrested for passing mobile phones amongst themselves. Now I've not flown from Amsterdam myself, but I have seen people pass mobile phones on a plane before. And yes some of them were Asian. It seems that in Asia mobile phones are very popular and there's a lot more services on mobile phones there and thus more information on the mobile phones and maybe just maybe that information is worth sharing with their friends on the plane.
