The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a protest campaign which started in 1955 in the city of Montgomery, Alabama. It was started because of racial segregation on public transportation. People stopped riding any kind of transportation anywhere, which led to a loss in profits for system. So by the time of Dec. 20, 1956
a court decision said that a segregated bus was unconstitutional.

Many blacks wanted to vote but they were scared that they mighty lose there job if they did. Only a few got to register to vote in Madison County. The white registers made sure that most blacks could not vote by putting so many obstacles up for them. The civil rights organization got together to help the blacks get more registrations in, in the mid 1900's. A lot of people tried to help them out.

The first African American to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States was Thurgood Marshall and he was also a American jurist. He was a lawyer before he became a judge best remembered for arguing before the Supreme Court and victory in Brown v. Board of Education. He was the great grandson of a slave and was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 2, 1908. Thurgood's original name was Thoroughgood but he shortened it.

Cesar Chavez was a civil rights activist a labor leader and a American farm worker. His work led a lot of improvements for union laborers. His birthday is a national holiday in eight U.S. states. Later on in his life education became his main focus. Cesar Chavez was a vegan.
