Grand Canyon Glass Walkway

About this trail:
The Skywalk will jut out 70 feet (21 meters) from the canyon rim, allowing tourists to go for a stroll with nothing between their feet and the Colorado River—4,000 feet (1,220 meters) below—except for four inches (ten centimeters) of glass.

Strange as it may seem, the above-displayed illustrations are indeed renderings of a proposed skywalk extending over the south rim of the Grand Canyon

Upon completion, the Glass Bridge will be suspended 4,000 feet above the Colorado River on the very edge of the Grand Canyon. On May 2005, the final test was conducted and the stucture passed engineering requirements by 400 percent, enabling it to withstand the weight of 71 fully loaded Boeing 747 airplanes (more than 71 million pounds).

It’s built on the grounds of the Hualapai tribe so it’ll cost you $29 just to tour the grounds and another $25 for the view of your life. If acrophobia checks in on your list of neuroses, don’t worry, there are plenty of other non-vertigo-inducing activities around.

I keep seeing the same photo of the walkway. Here is a new rendition from a different viewpoint. You can get a better look of what you will see at "The Skywalk"

This year, people will get to see the Grand Canyon in a new way. A new horseshoe-shaped glass bridge will extend, or stretch out, over the edge of the canyon. Tourists standing on the bridge will be able to look down and see the Colorado River 4,000 feet below.
1. I don't think I could do it

2. How Cool! Does anyone realize that a lot of people are killed every year by trying to get a good look at the Colorado River from the South Rim.  It happens every year people inch their way out from the rim.  I am sure that the park wouldn't open the walkway if it wasn't safe, and it might save peoples lifes.
