About this trail:
A collection of websites for improving your Vintage Mustang. Everything from reproduction, hard to find, and top-end performance links can be found here. I am rebuilding a '66 GT Coupe and these sites provide all the parts I need for my high performance build.
1
One of the best online shopping locations for vintage and late model mustang parts. Their online catalog is one of the better shopping experiences I have had in the automotive world. Their support and shipping are excellent. I usually go here first and price shop the others.
2
For hard to find vintage mustang parts, John's is the best. I found some hard to find power steering control valve parts here. Pricing is fair but you really have to dig to find the part you want (except if you have the original Ford part number - then it is a snap).
3
If money is no object and you want the ultimate handling suspension components, go no further than Griggs Racing. Nothing comes close for ultimate performance. I've installed the control arms on my '99 Cobra Mustang and can't say enough good things about the quality. I've been thinking about some of the GR350 components but it requires a serious financial commitment. If you don't have deep pockets, look elsewhere.
4
Total Control Products has a reputation for high quality performance products for vintage mustangs. They are well known in the "Eleanor" crowd and high preofrmance street machines. They are track tested and about 1/2 step down from Griggs as far as all out performance. The Rear Pushord suspension setup is questionable. It looks heavy and you have to route your exhaust out the side. I'm not sure how much better performance you can get from this setup vs. a panhard bar and a set of fiberglass monoleafs. Just think of what you can do with an extra $6k!
5
I love the suspension components the Cobra Automotive offers. They take the original designs and make them better and stronger. I'd put one of the Cobra Automotive Mustangs up against TCP or Griggs any day. The parts offered here are a big plus if you have to stay within regulations for vintage racing events. Cobra Automotive provide a high quality selection of quality components. If you don't believe me, check out the racing videos. The Watkins Glen footage is just plain SICK!
6
ANY and I mean ANY racing fan will appreciate the full lap at Watkins Glen. This car has the full Cobra Automotive setup and it screams. It is also a high-revving 400+ HP 289. The tranny sounds like it has straight-cut gears. Shifts are lightning quick and the audio on the video is amazing - crank it up! For all you GM guys (even I have an '05 Pontiac GTO) should be warned if you see this car in your rear-view. It won't be there for very long and once it gets past you, there is no way you will be catching it. AWESOME!
7
Global West has been around for decades and produces some of the best suspension components on the market. I like the lower control arms, and adjustable strut rods. The sub-frames are great too. Also check out Maier Racing for these. They have a similar design but have additional weld points.
8
The best quality parts in the market. You will pay a premium but the quality is superb.
9
I came accross this site about four years ago. They are not very well known but they have a nice collection of hard to find performance parts and the only vendor I have found that consistently stocks ABS parts. Their prices are very reasonable and I personally have had great service from them.
10
The shopping experience here is a little tough but they have good prices and the only site that carries the Eleanor kit for '66 Mustangs. Prices are competitive.
11
An extremely wide range of parts for restoring and building a high-performance ride. Prices are higher than comparable shops and the online catalog needs some work but they do carry a ton of parts so one-stop-shopping is a big plus.
12
Back in 1989, my car was on the cover of the parts catalog so I am a little partial to this company. They have a great selection of stock components and I personally believe their upholstry is the best on the market. Highly recommended for a stock rebuild and good reproduction parts such as light bars and GT rims.
13
These are very similar to the Global West subs with the exception of the additional weld points. Either would be a tremendous benefit to the chassis, but I like the extra rigidity that these can provide with no extra weight. As compared the the three-piece setup of the TCP system (previous link) I like this much better. It will offer nearly the same chassis stiffining characteristics without the weight and cost.
14
This site started out with just a small selection of well designed parts and have expanded to include a host of select parts. I have to agree with their inventory. From the Canton pans to the well designed strut rods and roller spring perches, I really like the selection. The pricing is super!
15
Steve has engineered his own parts and markets to a small niche group of enthusiasts. He has some of his parts available on ebay but mainly he gets business from word-of-mouth. I have the cable clutch for my T-5 in my '66. I also have my eyes on the PBR brake adapters for the early models. Pricing is great and he guarantee's his workmanship. I will continue to give him business as he continues to expand his inventory.
16
Summit is the largest parts distributor in the business. Jegs is a close second but I prefer the search and categorized search on the Summit site. They also have wish lists and if you work on multiple projects, can set up buy lists for each vehicle. I don't want to tell you how much I have spent with them over the past 20 years.
17
If you have some fabrication capabilities, you can get pretty creative with the parts available in this catalog. Be sure to check out the aluminum radiators!
18
In my book they are 2nd to Summit Racing. However, they do have competetive pricing and an excellent catalog so check them both before buying that MSD ignition or set of competition gauges you have had your eyes on.
19
You have to start somewhere. There can be some great deals found here for any car enthusiast of any vehicle.
