Every time you apply for a loan, you will need to go through credit checks,
that will cause your credit to drop a bit, not a lot. That's also why you
should not give out your info to too many loan agents to check and compare
rates, because they need to run credit checks to get the exact rate for you.
Having a HELOC does not prevent you from getting a refi. But if you want to
roll the HELOC into your 1st loan when you refi, you need to pay attention
to a couple of details:
When you get the HELOC, make sure you don't pay closing costs and pts etc.
And know the terms for HELOC termination. There may be a "prepayment fee"
for you to close the HELOC within a certain period of time. For example, it'
s about $700 for HSBC to terminate a HELOC within 3 years.

Yes, you will get monthly statement just like your primary loan, except it's
interest only whereas your primary loan is P&I (Principle+Interest). The
rate will fluctuate along with the Prime Rate.

You may want to change a broker. My broker said it can be relocked as multip
le times if necessary, and no fee.

DirecTV hacking is dead?
For the past few years DirecTV has employed a variety of encryption techniques to keep people from getting free service. Every level of protection DirecTV has used has been eventually hacked, but this week underground DirecTV hackers learned that their card hacks had died and the early prospects of hacking the newest technology isn't looking good. Their communities are currently freaking out (1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16) but promising fixes someday. Time will tell if the underground satellite hacking community figures out a way to deconstruct it, I suspect someone, somewhere will figure out a way to break the security.
Personally, when I first got my DirecTiVo a couple years back I took a look at the satellite hacking underground to see what it was like. From what I saw, these guys put so much time and effort into it that it seemed pointless. I'm a big fan of opportunity cost, I'd rather just pay DirecTV $40 a month than tweak code for hours every night that also requires hundreds of dollars worth of shady electronics equipment.
