With wisdom, any event is an opportunity to learn and develop, even the painful and difficult events, and it can be that we learn most in difficult and trying times, as we can sail along on a sea of complacency when things are going 'well'.

Anyone can be our teacher, we can observe and learn from everyone we meet. I work as a volunteer chaplain at my local hospital, and spend time with very ill, elderly and dying ladies. I sit and listen to what they choose to tell me about their lives, their hopes and dreams, their fears and their current observations.

Without fail I learn from each patient I meet, as they all reflect an aspect of my own personality and character, enabling a focussing upon my own shortcomings and misunderstandings, giving me insight into the potential refinement of my character. I am always seeking to improve, for others and myself.

But I can extend this opportunity whilst carrying out my daily routines, travels and encounters, seeing the interactions around myself, seeing which are beneficial and which are negative, and slowly, very slowly, turning around the momentum of my life into a more beneficial and positive life. Learning from all my teachers, everyone I see, hear and meet. There is no-one who cannot teach me, and for that I am grateful.
