Ever wonder what eBay looked like in it's early days? Thanks to the WayBackMachine, it's easy.
This is what eBay looked like in 1997. I appreciate the whole minimalistic look. Heh.

My favorite part of eBay in 1997 is how Toys & Beanies is a full blown category. That's one step away from giving pogs a category.
3
Nothing is extremely different at first glance. However, I image the site was updated extensively for Y2K.
4
This is Google after the apocalypse of Y2K.
5
In 2001, eBay features such hot items as printer ink and baseball cards. Baseball cards.
6
This is what eBay looked like in 2002. Plush toy section is gone, baseball cards are less prevalent. On the other hand, the featured items give an even better look at the times. For instance, one of the featured items is "The Secret of Overcoming Verbal Abuse". 2002 was a rough year.
7
This is what eBay looked like in 2003. It's too bad the images aren't available. I bet someone out there has them, too. Somewhere on cached on a computer they don't use... just a thought.
8
Understanding the complications of bidding how to pay for things with internet moneys, eBay lays it out for us on their front page.
9
This is what eBay looked like in 2005. Not much to say about that.
10
Last but not least, this is what Google looked like waayyyy back in 2006. Surely that doesn't seem like that long ago, but in Internet time that's like 8 years.
Stay tuned next time when I exhibit my own site, The Way Forward Machine where I display what I think sites will (or should) look like in the future.
