About this trail:
Check out Seau's in Mission Valley.  Great Sports bar founded by the ex-Chargers linebacker.  I suggest Junior Seau's Mama's Teriyaki, Samoan style, chicken and beef combo

Make Sure you eat in Old Town for some fantastic mexican (and much better than anything you'll find in Tijuana)
Try El Agave, or walk around during the day and find the place with the fresh made tortillas, made street side

No California trip is complete without a trip to Inn-n-Out Burger, the one I know of is in Mission Valley near Seau's, check out the secret menu also (you can search for inn-n-out's secret menu on wikipedia) and get your burger done animal style

At Pacific Beach
Expect the line to wrap out the door:

One of my favorite places for breakfast in San Diego. Dirt cheap breakfast burritos right above the sand. They have an awesome outdoor seating area that a lot of people don't know about directly across the boardwalk on the north side of Crystal Pier (you have to sort of walk along the right side of the weird curio shop that sells hammocks and shells).
