About this trail:

Heather Whitestone despite being deaf went on to becoming Miss America in 1995. Read a tongue-in-cheek account of a captioner who captioned a stage appearance for Heather. She was very gracious and unpretentious during this particular stage appearance. Did you know that there are strict rules framed by the Miss America Association that governs the way the media can approach them. They do take care of their own.

Take a peek into the actual workings of the Miss America Pageant. Find out who the judges are and lap up info about them. It ain’t easy. To be considered as a judge you need to have a string of qualifications standing testimony to your ability to judge.  A celebrity photographer, a popular song specialist, a TV show host, a former Miss America and a talented actress. Whew!
