Indianapolis Colts and Christianity

I couldn't help but beam proudly at my television screen last night as the owner for the Indianapolis Colts, Jim Irsay, and his head coach,Tony Dungy, boldly gave God all the glory for their victory at Super Bowl XLI. "Now there's an awful lot of shining glory," said Irsay on the nationally televised post-game show. "But we're giving it all to God again because that's what got us here ... I know God has looked after us on this journey and bonded us into such a tight family."

"More than anything, I've said it before, Lovie Smith and I, not only the first two African-Americans, but Christian coaches showing that you can win doing it the Lord's way. And we're more proud of that

Smith called the event a "perfect stage" for the coaches to confess their faith in Jesus Christ in a video shown at Saturday's breakfast. Both coaches appeared in a USA Today ad on Friday with a message said, "We're pro football coaches, but we are also men of faith. A faith that defines who we are. It comforts us in tough times and produces hope in the midst of adversity. It is through our common faith in Jesus Christ that we have individually experienced God’s love and forgiveness."

Tony Dungy is married to Lauren Dungy. They have two daughters, Tiara and Jade, and three sons, Eric, Jordan, and the late James Dungy. Sadly, the 18-year old James Dungy committed suicide on December 22, 2005.
