NewZealand 04. My friend Deborah and I spent 10 days on the North Island. Someday, I'll make it to the south island. This was a highlight... sailing in the beautiful Bay Islands amongst a couple schools of dolphins. Unfortuneatly we couldn't swim with them that day because the schools had baby dolphins. They swam up to the boat, so close we could almost touch them.

My daughter's favorite vacation... she was raving about the place for weeks afterwards. The food was great (best bbq chicken), the staff friendly and helpful. Horseback riding more for dudes than experts. And we loved the mineral springs fed pool and hot tub after riding.

This is a great place to stay if you want to scuba dive and have your own boat. They have there own marina, and can refill air tanks.

Notes for planning a trip to thailand. Highlights from past trips: Chiang Mai - nice sized city with lots of temples, easy to get around by walking or Tuk Tuk. Bangkok - crazy/big/frenetic traffic but you must stay for a night or two. Don't miss the Emerald palace. Koh Samuii - it sounds like its been quite developed since I visited. But on the plus side, it is easier to get to with its own airport. Krabi/Railay beach: beautiful limestone cliffs/white sand beaches... Phuket: it was overdeveloped back in the 90's.
