How does that work? Well, first someone else sings the song and registers it into their database, and then you sing it and it finds it by comparing it to the other person's song. Basically, anytime you can't identify a song, you can run the song through this program by using a microphone or by using your sound card's output for the mic input in your Audio properties settings. It'll then analyze the waveform output against the database and will identify it. There's a separate program made specifically for adding to the database. For the most part, this is an unobtrusive way to identify music, even songs from an online radio stream.

Musipedia

This page lets you search for that song Much like Midomi does... only it provides a few more search tools at your disposal. Namely you can tap out the Rhythm, or figure out the "Contour" of the song... For the Contour, you take the first note and then look at the second note... is it the same, higher or lower than the first? And the next note is the same, higher or lower than the previous note? Continue like that as far as you can without worrying about how long the note lasts or rests.... I'm sure you're saying to yourself "That's an invasion of privacy!" or "That's spyware!"... no, all it does is record the song title, artist, and the time you listened to it... They also don't even keep the "log" of all this info for very long... it just gets added into the stats...
