I'm not sure if my rule is all free software yet but this does seem cheap if the rest is free.

This guy has seen it all. Read before you get out your screwdriver. I'm not sure I am this hard core though. I'd like to stick to off the shelf stuff and skip the heat sink installation.

Looks like one way to use MythTV with DirecTV might be to control the STB from MythTV with the signal going into the MythTV. Gag, seems like a kludge but at least it would work for all channels supported by DirecTV.

If you are going to do this you'd better not be afraid of building the kernal. Who needs a cool HDTV movie freezing mid scan?

For Debian and therefore Ubuntu. Seems dead easy to try out.
