The Apple II was one of the first standardized consumer ready computers. It soon was seen as something both small businesses and hobbyists could use. It legitimized the personal computer and the later IBM PC capitalized on that legitimacy.

By the time Dell hits its stride the PC is fully made a commodity. Parts, components, and accessories are interchangeable and virtually generic. What next? If price and quality can no longer bring in customers what will?

Scary but cool, I guess. If you are buying a game machine why not have it look like it belongs?

So it may not be a fad but the Coke-Lenovo could be the beginning of sponsored computer and software products.
