Best (Free) Internet Security

A trail of 16 pages, marked with comments, by picketech
About this trail:
This trail was created in order to help you with your internet virus and security problems. I've personally used all of these products at one time or another over the last 6 years, as have hundreds of my clients. I've not been infected with any kind of virus, spyware or malware since 1996. You obviously don't need all of these products, but by all means install the Comodo Firewall.
Since all of these products are small footprint products they will not slow your system down like most integrated commercial packages do, but are every bit as effective and will save you lots of money and aggravation.

1
Best Firewall available for Windows, easy to install and use, does not place unreasonable demands on the OS.
2
Free Anti Virus Software for the home user, places minimal  demands on the OS. I've used it since 2001 and have been virus free. I've also been running the Free Anti Spyware for a while now and it seems to be doing it's job too. So in running these two items on your pc in combination may be all you need to do.
3
Browse the  NET with a bit more security, places no strains on OS.
5
This will install into your Browser, and let you know how safe the site may be, by displaying either green=ok, yellow=caution or red=stay away. Using this in conjunction with an antivirus should keep you out of trouble.
6
A great Antivirus program, free for home users. I've used both AVG and Antivir, finding both will do the job equally well.
7
Great Utility for detection of Spyware/Malware use it in conjunction with Spywareblaster for the best coverage. Both Utilities have a very small footprint, ideal for computers with minimal ram.
8
Use this utility in conjunction with Spybot for the best Spyware/Malware coverage. This is a low impact utility, and is ideal for computers with minimal ram.
9
Use Spybot in conjunction with Spywareblaster and you'll not regret it. Both pices of software have a small footprint and work very efficiently. (Spywareblaster can be found elewhere in this trail.)

The Ultimate in Anti Virus / Anti Spyware / Malware.
Install this Linux to your MS Windows Hard Drive. It will easily install itself as a dual boot system. If you do nothing else but use the internet with it, you've just decreased your crash and burn risk by 90%. I believe however you will use it for far more once you see how easy it actually is......Good Bye Windows....... I use this flavor of Linux exclusively on my laptop with a wireless Internet connection and as a Server to my internal Windows Network.

Excellent Anti Spam Software, easy to use and works with most E-mail clients.

This Web based utility is excellent, and has fixed many a nasty entry made into the windows registry effortlessly. Just download the Zip file using the Direct Download Link in the upper right hand corner, and do your stuff. Everyone should have this little utility to check their registry entries at least once, wether you think you have a problem or not. You will be amazed what you will discover.  I use this tool before I use anything else. Many a time things have been set right by using this tool only.

This is a little gem and worthwhile having on your system if your ISP doesn't check for Spam, or charges for Spam Removal. It will remove all items you consider to be spam from the mail server before it is downloaded to your mail client.
14
This is a excellent family oriented web filter. Read what it says on this page, then decide if you want to use it. Usage is simple, with a tiny almost unoticeable footprint. Filter is easy to turn off and on, making it a breeze to control content for kids.

Read the review and decide for yourself. I prefer Naomi, but that's for the individual to decide. Since Naomi needs no fiddling with, I would think it is the easier option to use.
