About this trail:
...This is the first place I stayed in Sydney, mostly because all other places were full. It was small, dirty, and in between two questionable "gentlemen's clubs" in one of the worst parts of the city - Kings Cross. We had fun, but better options exist.

...This YHA on the other hand is absolutely incredible. You have to book way in advance, but it is well worth it. Check out the pool and kitchen. It's one of the best hostels in the entire country. I found YHA's are typically the best.
3
...The Sydney web page - might be helpful for maps, etc. I would suggest getting out of Sydney after just a few days. It's beautiful, but still just another huge city.
4
...This is one way to get around the country - you'll be with a whole busload of other young travelers, and it's a pretty good party, not to mention a good deal. They offer tons of different types of flexible tickets.
5
...Once again, this YHA is one of the best in Airlie Beach - a jump-off point to the Whitsunday Islands. Two words of advice - DON'T stay at Koala Hostel, and save your diving for Cairns. Instead, go sailing...
6
...I went sailing on the Matador which is featured on this page - a retired 85 foot open ocean Maxi Sailing Boat which has never lost a race. Many of these boats have similar records and sizes. It is a perfect way to see the Whitsundays - while racing an 80+ foot boat through islands surrounded in white sand.
7
...This is Byron Bay from the sky - it's even better from the ground...
8
...Here you can find accommodations, ect. It's better to choose a good place, because I guarantee you will end up staying at least twice as long as you are planning. It is a small quiet surf town during the day full of hippies, but it goes off at night.
9
...Try a day tour from Byron Bay to Nimbin with Jim - he has an old bus, an amazing sound system, and blasts beats he mixes himself. You drive into the hills for about 2 hours before coming to the town of Nimbin - where marijuana appears to be completely legal. I went myself, and it was quite the experience...
10
...This hostel is incredible - especially if you plan to stay for an extended period of time...which you will. Right on the beach, only meters from the surf break.
11
...Cairns is where I spent almost as much time as I did in Byron Bay. The diving from here on the reef is said to be the best - I went for 5 days and lived on a boat, which I definitely suggest. The town is not as beautiful as other places but the nightlife was the wildest I found outside of Sydney.
12
...Just north of Cairns is Port Douglas. It's a good place to relax and detox - a quiet town with a fishing industry and good food. Keep going north in a rental car and you'll soon be in the Daintree National Rainforest.
13
...This was my favorite place to go skydiving, mostly because of the spectacular scenery and of course the great people. This was one of the most exciting days of my life. I can't wait to return again. We landed in a field of sheep just as you would expect...the guy on my back started to bark like a dog so that they would move. No sheep was injured or killed durring the making of this jump.
