Online bookmarking and page annotation

This is a really cool way to not only keep track of bookmarks online, but also annotate web pages and link them together in a trail. You can even embed images and hyperlinks in your notes.Then you can share it with someone else! And they can add notes to it. Update: It also gives you the option to post your marked page to del.icio.us, Yahoo MyWeb, and others. Nice feature.

One feature we've added with the contacts features is the ability to collaborate on trails -- you can now allow your contacts (or everyone) to add marks to your trails.

Trailfire and many another online service uses Plaxo as an online address book for sharing notes and trails. Plaxo can import your contacts from Outlook or Yahoo. The basic service is free and provides a handy way to access and back up your contacts.

This is one of the most popular online bookmarking services. Many websites now feature a button on their page just for adding the page to your del.icio.us account. I find it very useful, esp in conjunction with Firefox's extension.

Different ways to share del.icio.us bookmarks.

Diigo is another bookmark/annotate/highlight webpage service. It works with IE, Firefox, Flock, and Safari (Apple Mac). It has more extensive features than Trailfire or del.icio.us. I am evaluating whether I prefer Diigo or Trailfire: del.icio.us to me is a little different and not a direct competitor.

This toolbar for IE provides easy access to Diigo functionality. I use an extension for Firefox.

Diigolet is a bookmarklet which adds a button to your browser without downloading and installing software.

You can even post your annotated page to your (supported) blog.

Yahoo MyWeb Beta is able to import bookmarks from del.icio.us with tags intact. Also allows storing a copy of the original page... useful if the page updates or the link is broken.
