The difference between the mechanical TV and electronic TV is that the mechanicals uses a neon tube for light and the electronic uses cathode ray tubes.

Electronic television uses a cathode ray tube to display picture and an electronic camera to to capture the image. The mechanical T.V's gave a poor picture created by a motor that rotated a metal disk to produce the picture. The screens were only about an inch wide, which must have made viewing a program difficult.

Mechanical: A motor rotated a metal disk with light behind it (from a neon tube) which created the picture. The screen was only an inch long.

Electronic: A cathode ray tube (picture tube) was used to display the picture, and some sort of electronic camera tube to capture the image
