Drawings from the Stone Age were found in "the cave of swimmers" near Sura in the southwestern part of Egypt. Written references date back up to 2000 B.C. In 1538 Nicolas Wynman, German professor of languages, wrote the first swimming book. Competitive swimming in Europe started around 1800, mostly using breaststroke. What is the business of boxing? Bluntly, it involves selling those youngsters’ dreams to gamblers. As casino owner Donald Trump once told journalist Phil Berger, there is “a direct relation between a high roller in the gaming sense and a boxing fan. Boxing, more than any other sport, brings out the highly-competitive person.” In other words, boxing cards brought an extra $15 million a week in business to Trump’s casinos, and almost $2 million a week in profits.

During the nineteenth century it was decided that the sea air had 'restorative' qualities, ideal in a climate like Australia's. This encouraged people to visit beaches to swim or engage in other outdoor activities. However, the modesty of the time restricted what they could actually do at the beach. Until 1903, laws prevented anyone from swimming during the day between the hours of 6am and 7pm!
